  • Modern Ranch Reno: Concrete Sidewalk

When our backyard layout was not working we had to come up with how we could use our backyard to its full potential. A concrete sidewalk was our answer. We have been working on our backyard for months now. You can see our backyard game plan HERE.  When we were talking with my dad (he is a landscape designer, he owns a company called DB Landscape here in Arizona) we went over our hopes for our back yard.  Backyard Goals A place to entertain For the kids to use the whole backyard For it to feel like a retreat A place where the kids can be and play for a long time. Why the backyard was not working In the backyard the pool is right off the back patio. There is also a good amount of backyard behind the pool. That space behind the pool was just waste space that no one ever used. In the landscape plan we have a full concrete sidewalk going around the so that we can use the entire backyard. We are wanting our backyard to…

  • Modern Ranch Reno: Backyard Plans

Super excited to share our backyard landscape ideas with you. I am so lucky that I have a crazy talented Dad. He owns a landscaping company called D&B Landscaping here in Mesa, AZ and he did a beautiful design for us. Before we start with a plan take a look at what we were dealing with. As I started my backyard I started by writing down all my backyard landscape ideas. Before/Move in day You can see our full Before pictures when we bought the house HERE This is what the backyard looked liked when we moved in. It was beyond overgrown. I can’t even believe that we could see past it all. I like to think that I have vision but this was so crazy! First, thing we had to do was clear everything out so that we could really see what we were dealing with. We hired some help and the poor guy was stung by several scorpions, several different times. Poor guys. Creating a Game Plan After everything was cleared out we walked the backyard several different…

  • Modern Ranch Reno: New Front Door and Hardware

My front door was in need of a major makeover. At my last house I had a Schlage key pad lock and I loved it. When I say love it I mean LOVE IT! I could never ever go back to a keyed entry front door lock.  There is something very convenient about having a keyless entry. It’s so nice for friends and family that may need to get into my house. It is so nice when I have to carry in loads from the car and my 5 year old can unlock the front door for me. Then to top it all off this hardware that I used on my front is connected to an app on my phone and it sends me a message every time that my door is locked and unlocked. It gives me such a peace of mind. The second I moved into my new house I knew that it was one of the first things that I wanted to add to the new house. I wanted/needed a new front door to go along with…

  • DIY Christmas Wreath and Front Porch

This post is sponsored by JOANN. All opinions and ideas are our own. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! I am SO excited!! This year Christmastime will bring so many gifts to my family and I! During the Christmas season we’ll be welcoming our fifth baby boy into our family and I will finally get my boot off of my broken foot and be able to walk again! YAY! How’s that for an eventful Christmas!? To get into the spirit, I headed to JOANN and grabbed some festive items to give my front porch a makeover! I wanted to make a new wreath to compliment our newly painted, red, front door! We painted our house navy blue over the summer and I have been itching to paint the door red and it was perfect timing for the holidays! For the wreath, I was leaning toward something traditional but we wanted to put a unique, modern twist to it so Savannah and I decided to make a wreath out of a picture frame! I absolutely LOVE the rectangular shape…

  • DIY Pool Organizer

Summer in Arizona can only mean one thing, pool time! With temperatures reaching 100-120 degrees daily, we have spent hours and hours by the pool. We realized that pool activities require a bunch of accessories, toys, etc. We have pool floats, diving rings, goggles, towels, sunscreen and tons more. By the looks of our little shelving area, it was time for some color and a Pool Organizer. The shelving unit was working great but the bins were very sad looking and my kids just threw everything everywhere when it was time to clean up.  When we don’t have a system in place, they just aren’t sure where things go and it tends to get disorganized very quickly. We decided to replace the bins with some sturdy plastic bins in two different sizes to accommodate the different pool supplies that we had. We spray painted the bins with Krylon Outdoor Décor spray paint in Satin Bluegrass. I love the cool blue/green color that reminds me of the crisp, cool pool water! It took 2-3 coats of Krylon Outdoor Décor spray paint…

  • DIY Spray Painted Barstools

When I moved into my new house one of the things I fell in love with was this covered back patio. I loved that I had a little countertop just off of my kitchen window. I could just imagine feeding my kids out the kitchen window as they played outside. I wanted to do some fun DIY barstools and when I fell in love with this fabric I knew that the perfect accent color for the barstools would be ColorMaster® Paint + Primer in Sun Yellow by Krylon. I got these tired looking barstools from my neighbors next-door that were getting rid of them. I knew it would be a quick and easy fix to give them some new life. Some of the wood was rotting out from them and also the fabric just wasn’t my style. First I collected all of my products that I would need to complete the project I ordered this fabric online. It has really great green colors with a little bit of yellow through some of the leaves. I also got a few cans of Krylon’s…

  • Palm Springs Inspired Patio Decor

Palm Springs Inspired Patio Decor In the last few weeks here in Arizona we have had the most beautiful weather. This is my favorite time of year and because the weather has been so amazing we want to spend all of our time outside. Our patio decor needed a bit of a refresh. We have a covered back patio that has been freshly painted and we have a little plain outdoor couch set. We wanted the patio area to have a bit more color since the house is now black and white and the patio furniture is very neutral. I wanted the patio to have a Palm Springs vibe to it. I think that is exactly what I think I achieved. This is what the space looked like before. I was looking for some great outdoor patio décor that had a pop of color and some fun patterns to add to our plain patio chairs. I found everything that would make my back patio come to life on Annieselke.com. The first thing I found was this amazing coral and white…

  • Dinner Party Décor using TIKI Clean Burn Firepieces.

I am excited to share this dinner party decor that I did for a recent dinner party. I wanted the dinner party to have simple and yet really cool elements and layers to it and I feel like that’s exactly what I was able to achieve.  I did the dinner party in my parent’s backyard because it’s just so dreamy and it went perfectly with the dinner party décor; it was cozy and fun. First thing I did after I figured out the location was check out some of the products that TIKI Brand offers. I will be totally honest I had no idea that TIKI Brand had tabletop decor. They have so many awesome products. When I saw the Clean Burn Tabletop System, I knew they would be perfect for the party decor that I was going for. They are colorful and classic and the fire brought such a cool vibe to the party. The tabletop firepieces went really well with the colorful vases that I had planned on using for some flowers. To start the table decor I laid down a black…

  • Updating My Curb Appeal by Painting My Front Door

So with the New Year here I am getting things done around the new house. The house is coming along and I have notice that the smallest details and updates are making the biggest difference. With that being said my front door was in pretty bad shape and updating my curb appeal was key. I hated the green trim around the door and black door was in major need of a fresh coat of paint. Who ever painted the door in the first place did not do that great of a job. There was a lot of wood showing through the black paint. The paint was also chipping off on parts of the door. The whole door needed a facelift. I decided to use the DecorArt Outdoor Living paint in Iron Gate to update the look and giving my front door a fresh look for the New Year. The paint is super smooth and has a great finish. The Green trim was the first thing to be painted. I taped around the whole door and the windows to make painting…

  • DIY Drink Cooler – Perfect for a Tailgating Party!

I spent most of my childhood at the baseball fields and at many football games. I am the oldest of six kids. I have two brothers and both of them where very big into sports. My uncle Brian played in the Major League in baseball and my brother Stetson, who is just 18 months younger than me, was all around MVP at our high school for baseball and football. He was later drafted by the Dodgers and he played in the minor league until he got injured and decided to stay at home after his first child was born. So when I say my childhood was spent going to many sports events I was not kidding. Tailgating and sports go hand and hand. When I think about tailgating I think about hanging out, hot dogs, hamburgers and ice cold sodas. I found a brown Drink Cooler with black legs on wheels and I knew I wanted it for sports events and to also use at other parties too. I did not love the color but I knew that would be…
