  • Park Home Reno: Lego Room

My boys lego room revamp is finally done and we are so in love with it! The hand-drawn skyline takes the lego room to the next level. Before: How to design a Lego Room Floors and Walls – First, choose what you want for your walls (and flooring if this is a full remodel). I painted all the walls white (Behr Frost) and did a hand-drawn skyline on the wall (tutorial coming soon) to set the tone for the room. We featured some of our favorite buildings. I wanted a hand-drawn look so I used a straight edge and a Sharpie Paint Pen to draw the design. I chose a black and white striped rug for the floors. Because this is a very large room, I chose a 10×13′ rug that covers nearly the entire floor.  Choose your furniture – Since I knew the rug, walls and bedding was going to be black and white in the Lego Room, I opted for colorful furniture including red headboards, yellow crib and green dresser. The colorful furniture makes the walls and rugs…

  • Park Home Reno: Main Floor Rug Round Up

Hey guys! A lot of you have asked a ton of questions about my rugs lately! I thought it’d be easiest to direct everyone to the same spot and answer some of the questions publicly versus in 100+ direct messages and emails. Dining Room Rug This rug in my dining room is from Overstock.com. You can get it here. I get an 8×10 rug. Your table and chairs should sit on your dining room rug. I love this rug for dining rooms because the color, pattern and movement in the rug hides pretty much any stain! It’s easy to clean and has a low pile so your chair lets slide easily across it. Living Room Rug The rug in my living room is the nuLOOM Vintage Perisian Distressed Pink rug from Overstock. I got the 8×10 but could have even gone up to 9×12′. I used my favorite rug tape (found here in our Amazon shop) I have (wood looking) tile and this tape is great for helping to hold rugs in place. I am not sure how it would do…

We have been partnering up with the Home Depot this year to convert our homes into more of a smart home. Then Mallory also installed her new light bulb and garage door opener which you can details all about that HERE. I just recently just added in these new Emerson Sensi Thermostat. • Smart Home Ideas: How to Create a Functional, Smart Garage

This year, we are on a mission to create the ultimate Smart Homes. We are going through virtually every space and creating convenient smart home features. If you missed my backyard post, I talked about how we added smart locks our exterior doors and they have been awesome!! I spent a few weeks working on every single detail of our garage and making sure it was functional and “smart” to make my DIY life more convenient (and pretty!).   How to make a smart home – garage The lights and the garage door opener were super dated since the house was built in 1994. We left the fluorescent lights on the ceiling and replaced the flush mount light at the top of the stairs. I used my favorite gold flush mount light and installed the Phillips Hue personal wireless lighting so we can control the lights remotely. I love this feature because if we are out of town, we can set up routines on the Phillips app to turn the lights on and off so it appears that someone is…

  • Park Home Reno: Back Patio Ideas and Patio Progress

This post is sponsored by The Home Depot. All opinions are 100% my own, always. Time for an update! We have been dragging you guys along our backyard journey’s over the past few months and I thought I’d take the time to answer some questions and give you an update on our back patio that we recently added to our home. A little background, our home sits on 1/2 of an acre and we have a large backyard space but besides our deck, had very little space to entertain. Rewind back to March, this area was dirt and a tree. The tree was beautiful but as it grew, it became too close to the window/house and had to be removed. We took the opportunity to make a full backyard patio that this backyard was really lacking. When we designed this space I had several must-haves for this space. Our must haves included: Easily accessible from inside the house Awesome “floors” Relaxing Hot tub/Pergola space Fire pit lounge area Dining Space Outdoor kitchen/grilling area First, we cleared out the trees, bushes,…

  • How to install floating shelves over tile

Today we’re going to show you how to install floating shelves. Installing shelves over tile can be especially tricky but with a few tips and tricks, it’s really not very difficult at all! How to install floating shelves over tile The shelves I got are from Ikea (LACK) but since I don’t have an Ikea near by, I ordered them on Amazon Prime. They’re more expensive but it would have cost me more to drive 2+ hours to Ikea and pay for gas and a babysitter. It saved me a lot of time too! Sometimes the convenience is worth the extra cost. haha! If you have an Ikea they’re only $15 each! SCORE! Installing Floating Shelves Materials: Ikea LACK floating shelves Level Painter’s Tape 2″ wood screws Diamond Drill Bit Installing Floating Shelves Instructions: Find your studs in the wall – Before I tiled the backsplash wall in my kitchen, I marked where the studs are on the ceiling. If your wall is already tiled and it’s not an exterior wall, you can find the studs on the back side…

  • Modern Ranch Reno: Concrete Sidewalk

When our backyard layout was not working we had to come up with how we could use our backyard to its full potential. A concrete sidewalk was our answer. We have been working on our backyard for months now. You can see our backyard game plan HERE.  When we were talking with my dad (he is a landscape designer, he owns a company called DB Landscape here in Arizona) we went over our hopes for our back yard.  Backyard Goals A place to entertain For the kids to use the whole backyard For it to feel like a retreat A place where the kids can be and play for a long time. Why the backyard was not working In the backyard the pool is right off the back patio. There is also a good amount of backyard behind the pool. That space behind the pool was just waste space that no one ever used. In the landscape plan we have a full concrete sidewalk going around the so that we can use the entire backyard. We are wanting our backyard to…
