How to Choose A Rug with Walmart Home

This post is sponsored by Walmart. As always, all opinion are my own.

Can I let you in on a little secret?

I rarely, if ever, invest in rugs.

How to Choose A Rug

That’s not to say I don’t appreciate a quality, vintage rug. Believe me, I do! But as a mom of 4, rugs don’t last forever around here. There is inevtiably signs of wear and tear and possibly even a spill or two! Instead of living with caution around our rugs, I decided awhile back that affordable rugs are the way to go.

What I didn’t realize at the time is how much I would enjoy changing them out! One of my favorite ways to keep decor fresh in my house is to switch out my rugs every so often. As my taste evolves or my home design changes, I love to invite a new pattern or texture through a rug or runner and the best place to find stunning pieces in a great price range in at Walmart Home!

Walmart Home carries so many different lines of rugs to fit most decor styles including NuLoom and WellWoven, two of my favorites, in varying sizes depending on your space.

How to Choose a Rug Size

I actually wrote an entire blog post (which I’ll link here!) on how to choose the perfect size rug for your living room. But essentially, you want the rug to be as big as the room can handle. When in doubt, size up! A small rug can make the space actually feel smaller than it really is.

How to Choose The Right Rug for Your Decor Style

My advice is to always start with a rug if you’re working on a design from scratch. If you already have furniture in the space, I would first think about whether I was looking for a foundational piece that wouldn’t take away from the room, or if I’m wanting to make more of a statement.

Next, you’ll consider a pattern vs. a solid color or texture. I love to add varying textures and patterns in a space for interest. One tip for mixing patterns to use different sizes. For example, if your rug has a large pattern, drapes or pillows should have a solid color or small pattern.

Lastly, you’ll take into account the tones of your furniture when choosing a rug. If your room is mostly cool colors such as greys or cool whites, introducing a new texture with a jute rug can warm up the room. Alternatively, sticking with your color scheme gives a monochromatic look. It all depends on what you’re going for!
