The last few months, I’ve been trying to spruce up my master bedroom. I needed to some how organize my shoes. So I decided to DIY a bookcase that I could use to organize my shoes. My bedroom has an en suite that has a bathroom, walk in closet and dressing room area. Like any girl, I have too many shoes and needed a function but cute way to organize and display them. I also have a dirty little secret I am a bit of a hoarder. Yes, thats right I may or may not have some clothes from high school over 10 years ago. I have issues but I am working on it. That being said, not only did I need a new space for my pretty shoes I also need more room in my closet.
I came up with the idea of a bookcase but I wanted to jazz it up a bit.
Organizing Shoes
- Pick out a bookcase.
I found this white bookcase at a thrift shop and decided to renovate it!
- Apply wallpaper.
Take off the back of the bookcase and place textured wallpaper on the back.
- Spray paint the back.
I used gold spray paint to give it a more expensive look and sprayed the back of the wallpaper.
- Start placing the shoes on the shelf.
The gold really makes the shoes pop and it makes for the perfect storage for your shoes!
How to Organize Shoes
First, I used this white bookcase that I picked up at a thrift store for $5 but You can get these basically anywhere. Wal-Mart, Target, Home Depot, Ikea, or like I did a thrift stores etc. You may even have one around your house somewhere that you could repurpose!
Next, I was able to take the back off the bookcase and apply this textured wallpaper that i had on hand from the wooden valance I made a while back. I used my favorite gold spray paint from Rustoleum and sprayed the whole thing after the wallpaper was applied. While that dried I spray painted the rest of the bookcase white.
I love the wallpaper and think the gold really makes the shoes and accessories really pop against the background.
The bookcase fit perfectly next to this small wall I have. Most bookcases are the perfect depth for a pair of shoes. I love it because now all of my shoes are up off of the ground in my closet and it’s so much easier to choose what I’m going to wear! Let’s be honest here, why not showcase and use your pretty shoes as part of the decor your bathroom or closet.
A girl can never have too many shoes, right?
