Prescott View Home Reno: DIY Kitchen Island

I’m finally sharing my DIY kitchen island with you today! It’s been done for a few months but I wanted it to be perfect (which it’s not) before I shared it. LOL! If you’ve been wanting to learn how to build a Kitchen Island but not sure how or think it will be too hard, it’s not! I promise ANYONE can build this. Anyone. How to build a Kitchen Island DIY Kitchen Island Instructions First I taped off a general area of where I wanted it and got rough estimates and headed to the Home Depot. I got these three cabinet boxes and arranged them in the aisle. It was literally the perfect size! I wanted a lot of drawers and these three were so perfect, in stock and inexpensive! I got home and put them in place. Somehow I carried them each from my car on my own and felt like superwoman. I put 2×4″ screwed into the wooden subfloor and once it was level, I screwed the cabinet bases into the 2×4. Next, I used shims to make…

  • Prescott View Home Reno: Add legs to Ikea couches

Ever wondered how to add legs to ikea couches? …or pretty much any couches or any furniture?  Ever since I bought these Ikea sofas, I wanted to add legs to them to raise them up higher. My Ikea Couches I have had the Ikea KIVIK for a couple of years now. These Ikea couches are seriously wonderful. They’re comfortable, modern looking and have washable covers. You can’t beat that. Unfortunately, there are not ikea legs to add to them. I searched for some ikea legs to help me raise the height of the Ikea KIVIK to no avail. In our last house, the low height didn’t bother me but for whatever reason, they felt so bottom heavy and too low for this space. Today I’ll show you a super easy way to add legs to your ikea couches! I loved the set up we had in the space but it really felt heavy and the couches felt so bulky. I found these legs on Amazon and after inspecting the bottom of the Ikea couches, I found that it’d be super easy…

  • Prescott View Home Reno: Choosing finishes for a bathroom renovation

This post was brought to you by the Delta Faucet Company. I received free product from Delta Faucet to write this post, but all opinions expressed are my own. Prescott View Home Reno: Choosing finishes for a bathroom renovation Hello friends! I am so excited to finally be sharing more info about my recent bathroom makeover! It was my biggest undertaking to date but I am so thrilled with the turn out. For this space, I knew I wanted a primarily “white” bathroom. I chose white finishes, white paint and a lot of marble which had variations of white and grey in it. I knew I’d accessorize with a bit of color and I wanted a warm metal (gold, brass, bronze) to accent the space. When shopping for bathroom fixtures, I was drawn to Delta’s Champagne Bronze finish and this sealed the deal for my decision. I knew the warm metal finish would really pop against all of the white in the space. For the bathtub, I chose the Cassidy Roman Tub and Hand shower trim in Champagne Bronze, of course!…

    Saying Goodbye #mallorysprescottviewhome

Life is funny. A year ago, I was knee deep in renovation turning this 1700 square foot home into our little dream home. I had no idea that 13 months later, it would be sold and our family would be moving into our long-term dream home. We knew that it would be somewhat temporary but definitely not 13 months temporary. So I’m saying goodbye. We get the keys to our new house today. The home we are selling doesn’t close until the 14th and we are doing a prepossession on the new house. That basically means we rent until we close, which will be later this month. If you read this post, you know that we bought the new house from our friends here in Prescott. The new house is beautiful and we are so excited to do some fun projects and renovations to make it our own! Savannah is coming up to Prescott (a 2-hour drive from her house in Mesa) to help me start moving. She hasn’t seen our new house yet so I’m excited for her to…

  • Prescott View Home Reno: Master Bedroom Sources

As promised, I’m back today with the sources for everything in our master bedroom. If you missed it, you can check out the master bedroom reveal here. I’ll start with the furniture because that is the bare foundation of the room, in my opinion. The dressers and side tables are from the Hemnes from Ikea. I got them about 2 years ago and they’ve been great. The pink tufted bench is from Wayfair. You can find it online here: Upholstered Bedroom Bench. This ceiling fan needs a full-fledge standing ovation or a round of applause at least. I mean, I have never LOVED a ceiling fan because from a design stand point, there are few that aren’t an eyesore. This is the opposite. I have had SO many questions about it and I feel like that’s why we can agree that this one takes the cake. I was lucky enough to have the amazing Hepburn Fan sent to me by Hunter Fan Company and I will literally shout from the rooftops proclaiming my love for it. It has a custom switch on…

  • Prescott View Home Reno: Master Bedroom Makeover

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Stearns & Foster. The opinions and text are all mine for my Master Bedroom Makeover Hello friends! I’m so excited to be sharing my master bedroom makeover reveal with you today! It’s a colorful mix of traditional, modern and a splash of farmhouse and I absolutely l love it! Last week I shared my plan for refreshing the space!   Let’s chat mattresses for a sec. Guys, no matter how much work, time, energy, etc you put into your space, the most important thing about designing a space is that it functions for you to the best of you and the room’s ability. Have you ever been to a beautiful hotel but the bed was so uncomfortable you couldn’t sleep? Maybe you visited a restaurant that had a great atmosphere and looked great but the food was awful? PRIORITIES people. If your master bedroom is not a place you can completely relax and recover from your day’s work, what’s the point? Why design a beautiful space unless it does…

  • Our closet makeovers with The Container Store and HGTV Magazine

Our closet makeovers with The Container Store and HGTV Magazine We’re so excited to announce that we’ve teamed up with The Container Store to give some of our closet makeovers! This was SUCH fantastic timing because our closets were a mess. I am an organizing junkie but after moving our 4 boys into one bedroom, the clothing and organizing situation was a bit out of control. Before The Container Store came to the rescue, we had dressers stacked up on each other in this pink wallpapered closet. Not ideal for my little boys. Oh, we also had half of the clothes in the playroom. Again, not ideal. The day before the amazing installer from The Container Store came to my house, we removed the pink wallpaper and repainted the closet to match the boys’ bedroom. We also removed the doors and will eventually install French doors to the space but now that the closet makeovers looks great, I’m not in a hurry to hide it with doors. The Container Store installed the elfa Custom Closet system for my boys. I am literally shocked…

Prescott View Home Reno: Master Bedroom Before

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Stearns & Foster. The opinions and text are all mine. Prescott View Home Reno: Master Bedroom Before & Plans I am finally getting around to sharing the plans for my master bedroom! It’s pretty much the last space in the house I haven’t shown much of. I have changed my entire design for this space like 3 times over the last year and I am happy to say I’ve finally figured out what I want! Yeah… it only took a year! Here is my Master Bedroom Before the new makeover. Here’s where my Master Bedroom Before looks like move-in day last June. I brought the furniture from our old house and it sat like that for a long time. Months later I painted all the trim and crown moulding black and decided I liked a more moody vibe. Then I changed my mind. Again. I repainted it all white and knew I needed a brighter, more airy looking space. I installed shiplap, grabbed some new mirrors, a rug, lamps and some…

  • When plans change Moving Homes

When plans change Moving Homes A few weeks ago, a friend of mine texted me about a fixer upper potential dream home she’d had her eye on for several months. Her and her husband (who happen to be my realtors when I moved to Prescott) decided to put an offer on their dream fixer upper. This wasn’t new info for me as we’d discussed the idea and even went to look at the house a couple times. You know how if you love something let it go and if it comes back, it’s meant to be. That was kind of her situation with this house.  Now where do I come in…? Well this friend of mine currently lives in a home that happens to be my dream fixer upper. Now, I use the term fixer upper very loosely because her house is beautiful but still unfinished. I always joked with them that if they ever sold their house, I get first dibs. Turns out, they took me semi-seriously and asked if I was interested as soon as they knew they were…

  • Prescott View Home Reno: Master Bathroom Reveal

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Floor & Decor. The opinions and text are all mine. For Prescott View Home Reno: Master Bathroom Reveal. Friends, I am so beyond excited and elated to finally reveal my master bathroom renovation with you! For the last, roughly, two months, I have put every extra moment of my time and 110% of my energy into renovating this space. When we moved in, it was a very small bathroom that was separated by a wall to our, also small, walk-in closet. The previous space didn’t make the best use of the square footage available. We lost our walk-in closet but we still have another reach-in closet in our room that is plenty of storage space for my husband and I. You can check out all of the before pictures and get an idea of the previous layout in this post. Here is my inspiration board for the space! We partnered with one of our all-time favorite stores, Floor & Decor for all of the tile in this space. They have…

  • Prescott View Home Reno: How to install wallpaper

Hello friends! Today I’m sharing a tutorial on how to install wallpaper! I have only done this a couple times but I’ve compiled my tips on how to install wallpaper and found what I believe to be the easiest way. I am not a professional in the wallpaper department but I got professional results with the method I used for how to hang wallpaper! Disclaimer: I had zero desire and zero energy to load up my four kids and go buy fancy wallpapering supplies so I’ll show you what basic DIY supplies I used that worked 100% fine. I chose this Kumo Wallpaper from Anthropologie. I used 2 rolls for my 8×13′ wall making my project $156. TOTALLY worth it!!! I loved that it has the trendy shibori look but a little different. First, begin with a clean, dry and smooth (or semi smooth) wall. I have slightly textured walls and I thought about smoothing them out but since they’re smooth to the touch and its a matte paper, I decided to leave them. If you have a metallic paper or…
