Mallory’s Prescott View Home: Kids Bathroom Reno Progress

Hello friends! I’m so excited to be sharing some progress and plans for the house with you. We are buzzing through our renovations and decorating but WHOA it’s a long, busy, messy process. I knew all of this going in but the details can make your head spin. I am happy to report that so far, I’m LOVING where it is going but we are working our way through, budgeting it as we go and trying really hard to enjoy the process. Today I’m going to take you through our plans and progress for our kids’ bathroom / the guest bathroom.

The plan: Demo all the things. Fix all the things. Decorate all the things. 😉 I’m going for a clean and traditional vibe with a few modern touches in the bathroom. I painted the walls BEHR Silver Polish, retiled the floors and shower, replaced the bathtub, vanity, and the light fixture. Here’s the starting point, in case you missed our Before Tour! Check it out here if you did miss it!

Bathroom Demo - Bribed Helpers

First, the shower tile, jetted tub, pedestal sink, medicine cabinet, floor tile, beadboard, mirror and light fixture came out. We kept the toilet because it is pretty new and in great shape. I did replace the seat though. I bribed my husband and his brother to help on demo day! It took like 2 hours and we had it down to the studs.

I’m so glad I begged them to help because that tub was a freaking beast. It had to weigh like 500 lbs. It was insane! We swapped it out for a cast iron tub which was also a mega-beast and a half. My brother-in-law moved the plumbing for the tub/shower, lowering the tub faucet since the cast iron tub we chose was substantially shorter than the jetted tub. He moved the shower head plumbing higher since it was pretty low to begin with and we decided to tile to the ceiling.

Next up, re-drywall, greenboard and cement board all around. Then we used RedGard on all of seams of the greenboard board to completely waterproof everything. When you apply it, it’s neon hot pink (which was hilarious/awesome) and it turns bright red when its set.

Next, tile all the things. We decided to tile the floors with a basketweave marble tile and the shower (to the ceiling) and half way up the walls with 4×8 subway tile and grey grout. It basically took my whole entire life to complete but oooooh my goodness, I love it so much. I am learning so much through this process.

Bathroom Tile - www.classyclutter.netThe bathroom was my first real tile job and now I’ve tiled two rooms and a pantry and next I’m tackling our kitchen backsplash. It’s amazing how these things seem so intimidating but once you do it and learn a few tips and tricks it’s really fun and not even hard. Patience is my biggest skill to learn throughout all of this. I just want it all done NOW! ha!

Here’s a sneak peek I shared on Instagram. We’re about 95% done with this bathroom so I’m off to finish the last little touches with my hubby and I’ll be back tomorrow with MORE of the guest bath / kids’ bathroom makeover! Until then, check out the rest of our progress on #mallorysprescottviewhome!
