I am so excited to be chatting all things kitchen island decorating today! You’ve heard the saying that the kitchen is the heart of the home, right? Well, this is certainly the case for my family. We start and end our days in this very spot where memories are constantly being made.
Over the years, I’ve heard from a few followers and even clients about their spaces not feeing “done”. They’ve spent thousands on a remodel or furniture refresh, but the space just doesn’t feel complete. The truth is, what it’s missing is styling! And to be honest? That’s my favorite part.
In today’s post, I will be discussing everything I love to include when kitchen island decorating, plus an easy DIY kitchen centerpiece that I think is perfect for any kitchen!
What To Know About Kitchen Island Decorating
As I previously stated, kitchen island decorating should not compromise the integrity of the kitchen island itself. I’m the first to say my love for interior design can come before functionality, but limiting this space to only a few pieces will guarantee you get the best of both worlds.
Before you get discouraged, I promise it is a lot easier than you think to decorate your kitchen island.
Here are a few of my favorite tips:
- Use height to your advantage! All of that empty space above is perfect to utilize for a grand effect.
- Choose items with more weight at the bottom. With kids of my own, I’ve seen things tip over I thought were as sturdy as a rock.
- Think about what colors, patterns, or textures are missing from your kitchen. This is the perfect place to put them to use!
- Place all your decorations in the center of the island to not take away usable space.
No matter what decor pieces you choose, feel confident in your selection. You were drawn to them for a reason, so trust that interior design voice inside you.
Kitchen Island Decorating: DIY Kitchen Centerpiece
When it came to my home kitchen, I felt like the space itself was missing a breath of fresh air. Having plants inside any space gives that essential earthy feel we all crave. That being said, I did not want the responsibility of keeping a plant alive- I have too much on my plate as is.
After previously trying out this project, I had a good feeling that this kitchen centerpiece would be perfect. Spoiler Alert: I love it!
Kitchen Centerpiece Supplies
What makes this project so simple is how little it takes to make it. Here are the 4 materials you will need:
- Any pot that you like! I got mine from Michael’s for $7
- One good looking branch. Mine was found in our backyard.
- Faux leaves
- Hot glue gun
And that’s it! This project has a lot of room for your own creativity to add extra materials, but this is the perfect base to get you started.
How To Assemble Your Kitchen Centerpiece
It is incredibly easy to put your centerpiece together, it just takes time to glue every leaf onto every branch. Choose to embrace it though! I like to put on my current TV show binge and start crafting away.
Start by fixing your branch to the pot. I like to just use glue for this, but you could also put styrofoam at the bottom to act as a base.
Once your branch is sturdy, start gluing away! I like to place leaves on both the tips of each branch, and the middle parts leading up to it.
After about an hour, your DIY kitchen centerpiece is finished and ready for kitchen island decorating!
Finished Centerpiece For Kitchen Island Decorating
The best part is here: seeing your finished DIY in the spot you dreamed it would be. Now take a step back and admire your hard work. After all my years of kitchen island decorating, this might be my favorite decor piece so far!
