Sonic Ocean Water Copycat Recipe

Sonic Ocean Water is probably one of the BEST drinks they have at Sonic. It’s so unique to Sonic and it ridiculously good. If you’ve never had it before, imagine a blue coconuty fizzy dream! Throw in Sonic’s famous ice pebbles and fahgettaboudit. Straight up amazing!

Sonic Ocean Water Copycat Recipe

Sonic is my number one favorite place to buy drinks in the Summertime. Heck, it’s my favorite ANY time. Since we don’t have one anywhere close to my house, whenever I go home to Arizona, or anywhere that has a Sonic for that matter, it’s one of the first places I go. I have been known to purchase two drinks (at least) for myself in one trip through the drive thru. It’s embarrassing really. 😉 The food isn’t as amazing but it is pretty good when you get to chase it down with one of the million awesome drinks they serve.

Today I’m sharing these delicious homemade version of Sonic’s Ocean Water Copycat Recipe you can make with just a couple ingredients. It tastes exactly like Sonic’s famous drink and it is so easy! If you can get your hands on some pebble or awesome crushed ice, even better.

Sonic Ocean Water Ingredients:

  • 4 Tablespoons of regular white sugar
  • 4 Tablespoons of water
  • 24 oz of lemon-lime soda (2 – 12 oz cans works great!)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of coconut extract
  • 3 drops of blue food coloring

Time needed: 15 minutes.

How to Make Sonic Ocean Water | Sonic Ocean Water Copycat Recip

  1. Mix sugar and water until it dissolves

In a microwave safe bowl, mix white sugar and water and heat for 30 seconds in the microwave. This should dissolve most of the sugar.

  2. Create the ocean!

Add the sugar mixture to the lemon-lime soda and coconut extract

  3. Make it BLUE!

Add blue food coloring to your liking

  4. Pour over ice

Pour it over some ice and you’ve got yourself the best dang drink ever. A close competitor with Sonic’s Cherry Limeade which you can also make at home with my recipe, thankyouverymuch.Sonic Ocean Water Copycat Recipe | www.classyclutter.net

  3. yummy! I live in Canada, so no Sonic here 🙁 I’m having a BBQ on June 14 and I’m hoping to make this! May I ask how much this recipe serves?

  4. I worked at sonic for 7 and half years while I was in high school and college. While this recipe looks amazing, all they do at Sonic is put sprite in a cup and add a small pump of blue coconut. Like the snow cone flavors you can buy at the store. If you want to try something amazing order a blue coconut limeade. 😉

    1. Hi Mary!

Great advice! Unfortunately, I cannot find the blue coconut anywhere local so this is my “store bought” version. 🙂 I may have to order some online because I LOOOOVE a good Ocean Water! I’m sure you know lots of tricks for awesome drink recipes! Thanks for sharing! xo – Mallory

      1. You can get the coconut syrup at World market or lots of other places if you don’t feel like making it–it’s clear, not blue, but I think it’s the flavor you are after, anyway!

    2. And if they are out of blue coconut, they use a little coconut flavor and blue powerade syrup instead. Worked there for 3 yrs in high school.

  6. I wanted a special blue drink for my son’s Sonic the Hedgehog birthday party. This sounded perfect. I needed enough for a crowd so I adjusted the recipe for 2 liters of Sprite. Used 2 cups of sugar and 2 cups of water. A full 2 oz bottle of coconut extract. Didn’t measure blue food coloring – just added until I was satisfied. It was a huge hit! Thanks so much for posting this!
