Living Room Updates and Aqua Antlers

Hi friends, Mallory here! Since my living room reveal, I have added a few new fun things to my living room makeover. I switched out a few things here and there, swapped out the coffee table for an ottoman (my poor kidney shaped coffee table broke – sad!) and changed the mirror to a wall of maps.

The map wall is one of my favorite things in my house right now. I took (9) Ikea Ribba Frames in black and printed off 9 different city maps of places we have lived, been to and loved or would love to visit some day! My favorite is the New York City subway map and the map of Lithuania, where my husband used to live. Ever heard anyone speak Lithuanian? Hot! 😉

I used (9) 19 3/4 by 27 1/2″ Ribba Frames and used the mat that came with it. I found the maps I wanted via Google Images and had them printed as Engineer Prints at Staples in 18×24″. I taped them to the back of the mat and framed them.

This wall behind my sofa has been such a challenge for me because it’s so gosh dang ginormous but I love love love how it turned out and how it really pulls the entire space together. I also love how personal it is. It makes me really happy.

Here’s the other half of my living room. Most of it has stayed the same but I added this cute deer above tv. See my reflection in the tv? haha! My plants have been stolen from their homes into other rooms so they’ll need replacing and I changed out the frames and one of prints. I am obsessed with the lobster print from Hello Lovely People. It’s an ode to my favorite show, Friends and it’s so cute! The other frame is a watercolor cactus painting I did.

To give my little faux deer taxidermy a mini makeover, I decided to use this DecoArt Maxx Gloss paint. I love the minty fresh color (it’s called Aqua Waters) and this sheen from an acrylic paint is magical!

High Gloss Aqua Paint

I used my foam craft brush and painted the antlers only. They’re removable so it was super simple to paint.

The antlers were matte white before and needed a little punch.

Look how shiny it is!!! Can you believe that?! I can’t believe the glossy shine that came from an acrylic! So impressed! It’s perfect for small home decor projects. I’m going to try it on my gumball machine too!

I really like how the antlers tie in the rug and pillows in the room. This wall doesn’t have much color either so I’m happy to bring a little punch of aqua to this wall.

I got a new ottoman from Overstock.com since my poor coffee table broke! The leg broke off and I kept it all hoping I can fix it but no such luck right now. This has also been super nice to put our feet up on and my kids have used it as an extra seat in the room.

I also replaced my two grey chairs with the love seat that matches my couch. It’s the Ikea KIVIK sofa and you can totally customize it for your space. I moved the chairs over by my new fireplace surround and mantel that me and Savannah built. I’m in love with how it turned out.

Colorful Living Room Makeover

I’m really loving the changes and I finally feel like I can leave this room alone for a bit. If you have any questions feel free to leave a comment or shoot me an email to ask. 🙂
