There are many different ways to decorate a Christmas Tree. I always decorate the Christmas Tree with the same basic steps, I will share how I decorate a Christmas Tree in just a few easy steps. Before you know it your Christmas tree will look like a professional did it.
How to Decorate a Christmas Tree
The steps are the same no matter what theme, or color. Here are a few different Christmas Tree Ideas.
Step 1: Find the perfect Tree
When you are looking for the perfect tree you want to consider the size. You don’t want to get something too big for the space. That means you don’t want it to be to wide or too tall. For my kids playroom I went to At Home Stores and I found the perfect size tree. My ceilings in the playroom are only 8 feet tall and I am putting the Christmas tree in the corner between two sofas. When you are looking for a Christmas Tree decide what color of lights you want on the tree. I wanted some color in the playroom so I went with colored lights and I also thought it would be fun to have a spinning tree. The tree I went with was The 7.5 feet Pre-Lit Spinderella Christmas Tree that spins from At Home.
Step 2: Find the perfect Decor
Here are a few of my tips when you are buying Christmas Tree decor.
- Buy 3 to 5 of each item or size of item. If its a really unique item then just buy one but try to get a few of the same item item. It will make your Christmas tree more balanced.
- Think outside the box, buy signs, table decor etc.
- Buy different size items- I tend to get a few oversized items then some medium size items then some small items to use as filler items. I normally get a container of a mix of ornaments because they are normally pretty cheap and they are great to use as fillers.
- Buy ribbon for texture but don’t go crazy with it.
After you have everything you are going to use on the Christmas tree lay everything out into piles. I like to lay it out into like sizes as well. It makes the process to decorating the Christmas Tree go faster.
Some of the items that I got from AtHome Stores that I used for my playroom tree are:
- ELEPHANT TABLETOP
- METAL CAMEL/TIGER/ELEPHANT/ZEBRA
- 15IN DREAM CATCHER ORNAMENT
- XMAS BALL PINE W/CLIP
- ZEBRA TABLETOP
- ANIMALS ORNAMENT
- 10X12IN MDF BLOCK HO HO HO
- 5 INCH BEADED ORNAMENT
- LARGE GLITTER FEATHER
- CAMEL TABLETOP
- 4IN BEADED ZEBRA/CAMEL /ELEPHANT
- Polyester Boho Llama Ornament Set
- Jolly Sign 5 x 7-in
- 5X7 INCH EVERYTHING SIGN
- 60IN MULTI POM POM GARLAND
- Sequin Multicolor Christmas Ribbon 2.5-in. 6 ft.
Step 3: Fluff the Tree
This is a very important step, take the time to fluff the tree. This is make the trees over all look so much better and fuller.
Step 4: Add Dimension
I like to add a bit of dimension to my Christmas trees. I like to add some more lights to the Christmas tree. I like to get lights that are a different size and even a different shape it just adds so much dimension and I just think you can never have to many lights.
Step 5: Add big or oversized items first
I like to put my really big and oversized items on first. I use wire to attach the really large items. But for the most part I use the tree itself to help wire things onto tree and help to keep things into place.
Step 6: Add garland or something around the tree
I like to add something around the tree. This maybe a ribbon or a garland. You can do this before you put the oversized items on if you like to but for this tree I used a shorter garland and so I did not want to waste any of it underneath the bigger items.
Step 7: Medium Items
This can be larger round ornaments, or more signs or something else you can find.
Step 8: Add Filler or Small Items
I like to use ribbon as a filler item. I will cut ribbon into bows and tuck them into spot where we have holes. I also will use the mix of small round ornaments to fill into holes that I may find.
Step 9: The tip top of the Christmas Tree
Don’t forget about the top of the Christmas tree. I don’t normally ever just add one item to the top of the tree I use all different picks and sticks to add the texture to the top.
Step 10: Add tree skirt or other Christmas Decor
I always like to add a tree skirt. It helps to cover cords and also so cover the legs of the tree.
Now Enjoy your gorgeous Christmas Tree. Happy Holidays!
