So, browsing pinterest (of course) I came across this idea I wanted to tweak a bit and replicate it. I thought this idea was so personal and down right amazing for a Christmas gift.
This map of the world has a heart where each member of my family (from my Great Grandparents down) have served missions for our church. There are 40 hearts on it! I am so proud of my family! My Grandpa is 96 and my Grandma is 90 and I know they are just going to LOVE it!
First, I got this board at Home Depot and painted it a taupe color I had lying around. Home Depot can cut your board down to any size you need.
Then, I cut out this map of the world vinyl shape on my Silhouette and I cut out the scripture, Joshua 24:15, “…as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
Then, I cut out the hearts in red vinyl.
I applied the world map vinyl and the scripture then placed heart in the country or state that each member of our family served their missions. The hardest part was identifying all of the countries!
Then I gave it a good spray with some aerosol polyurethane to seal in all of the vinyl. It made it look very professional instead of just stickers stuck on.
Both of us have decided to make these for our families! We’re going to have very happy grandparents this Christmas! 🙂
UPDATE: Savannah and I made one for her family too using a big canvas!
and another update, my Great Grandparents (and everyone at the party) LOVED it! It was a hit for sure!
I just wanna point out, don’t they look dang good for being 90 and 96 years old??
I love them more than anything!
Seriously, I wish I had more people to make this for, it was so fun and so rewarding!
Are you going to give it a try!?

October 2, 2014 at 2:56 pmThis is SO amazing! I realize this is an old post so you may never see this but I was wondering if you could tell us where you found the silhouette of the world? I have been looking and can’t seem to find anything like yours. If you could point me in the right direction or even have a link, I would be SO appreciative! Thanks for the great idea! 🙂
