Prescott View Home Reno: DIY Kitchen Renovation – Part 1: The Plan

kitchen-renovation-before-www-classyclutter-netHello dear friends! I’m so glad you’re here! It’s always fun to share ideas and plans with friends when they’re actually interested in renovation / your house! šŸ˜‰ I’m assuming you are, you know, since you’re here on our blog. haha! I’m super excited to get into the details of our budget friendly kitchen renovation with you. Yes, budget friendly. We are doing ALMOST all the work ourselves and completely overhauling this little kitchen.

We were insanely lucky to find a house that had a cute, “livable” kitchen so we could enjoy cooking and enjoy being in the heart of our home before the renovations started. A lot of houses we looked at did NOT have a “livable” kitchen. We’re lucky ours was and it was done really well! The biggest reason for renovating it was to rearrange the layout to utilize a LOT of wasted space next to our kitchen and open it up since we removed a wall (!!!!).

The previous owners had their kitchen table against the bench and a few chairs so it totally had a purpose but now that we put ours in the room nearby, we don’t need that empty space. We are buildingĀ inĀ a pantry where the bench is and taking our cabinets and island out closer to the new pantry to fill some of that open space.

Renovations are mess, can get tricky and are really crazy and exciting. Here’s what we have planned to redo this kitchen, maximize the space and stay on budget! We have completed a few of these items already and I’ll take you through tutorials of most of it. I won’t bore you with things like removing flooring because it came up super easily.

  • Remove flooring (DIY) – done! – $0

I’ll share as many sources, prices and details as possible so hopefully that it can be helpful if you are ever tackling the same projects! šŸ™‚ For now, I’ll leave you with my inspiration for the space! Now, off to tackle this long list!

You already have great house so can hardly wait to see what all you do to make it even more fantastic. It sure is a project but hopefully will be well worth all the aggravation of remodeling when done, never an easy prospect. When done can enjoy your new home even more for long time to come.

Hi, Structural improvements such as new roof, drainage, electrical, plumbing, etc. (done to local code by legitimate tradesmen and inspected!) are much more important to me. Ceramic tiles, granite counters and bad paint jobs are not going to cut it if the basement smells of mildew. If I buy a house I want it to be sound and Iā€™ll decorate it my way and not because it was newly landscaped, usually with totally inapropriate plants that will either die or become too big. Unfortunately many prospective buyers donā€™t see beyond the cosmetics.BV Kitchen Design
