Creating with the Stars 2014

contestant

Wow! What an absolute whirlwind these past few weeks have been. In case you don’t already know, we entered a DIY/creating competition on East Coast Creative. There were 299 entries and we were chosen as the top 12 to compete for the grand prize! There is a theme each week and you are required to showcase a new project based on the theme and you have one week to complete it. We’re talking big projects, you guys!

Week one was “Knock Off”. We chose a chair from Urban Outfitters and Savannah made the entire thing by tying macramé knots and rope. We will be posting the tutorial for the chair really soon! Keep an eye out!

We came in 5th place out of 12 and moved on to Round 2. We were so excited to be in the top 5!

Week two was our favorite topic, Paint! We came up with the idea of finding an image and pixelating it in Photoshop then hand painted each individual square on the wall! There are over 1800 squares on this wall! Again, the tutorial is coming soon!

We won first place in this round and moved on to Round 3!!! We couldn’t believe it! All of the competitor’s paint projects were insanely awesome so we were shocked and soooo excited to win it!

Week 3 was Upcycle. This was the hardest for us to come up with an idea because we felt like most of the cool upcycles had been done and we wanted to come up with a new idea. We decided on upcycling several items to come up with this Trash to Treasures Garden Area. It was perfect timing for Spring and we love how it turned out!

We came in 4th place and thought we were eliminated but due to a sponsor’s request for more projects in the final round, we were advanced to the Finals! Imagine our shock! It was so crazy.

The Final round (week 4) was Home Decor. We decided we really wanted to work together on this whole project so Savannah flew from Arizona to New York to help me redecorate my bedroom for the last project. Holy cow, it was so much fun and we are obsessed with how our room turned out. It is one of our favorite rooms ever. I seriously can’t believe we busted this out in 4 days! It was crazy!

We DIYed almost everything in this room! It was seriously so much work but it was a blast working together doing something we love and I LOVED having Savannah in New York for a few days. Bedroom Makeover 3

In the end, we came in 2nd place and we are so proud of our work. We were within 3% of winning the whole competition but I know we did our BEST and we have absolutely no regrets! We are so happy to have been a part of this whole thing.

Also, we want to publicly thank our mentor and “star” Mandi from Vintage Revivals. I’m sure you already know and love her but I’m telling you, she is one of the nicest, funniest, most creative people I have ever known and we feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to work with her and call her our friend. She is seriously so awesome in every way.  Thank you Mandi for helping us to be the best we could be and showing us the power of being fearless. You were the best mentor we could have ever asked for! We love you girl!

We also want to extend a HUGE thank you to all of you that have supported us and voted for our projects! We are so grateful and love you lots! For reals. We seriously have the best readers ever! Thank you!
