7 Spring Cleaning Tips To Make Your Home Really Sparkle

So, we all know spring-cleaning means you go that extra mile to really freshen up
your home. You go the extra mile to vacuum under the sofa and wipe down the fan
blades, but there are 7 things you can do that will make you feel like your house is as
clean as it was when you first moved in. None of them are major overhauls, but add
them all up and you’ll have one spic and span living space.

1. Clean the Curtains. Shower curtains, window treatments and curtains need
to be cleaned at least once a year. In the bathroom replace the shower lining
or wash it if you can effectively, but also give the outer curtain a good wash
and possibly an ironing to freshen it up. The window curtains may need to
be dry cleaned if they’re not machine-washable, but it will be worth it. They
collect dust and smell just like any other fabric that’s covered in dust.

2. Wash the Blinds. A simple dusting may not cut it, break out the screwdriver
and take the blinds down for a good soak and wash. It will take off the dinge
and lighten them up for the summer.

3. Change all Potting Soil. Potting soil is only meant to last for up to 6 months;
no doubt we often exceed this time limit. Plants can look brand new and the
pots they live in should also get a nice wash to make everything look all fresh
and shiny.

4. Clean out Storage Baskets, Crates and Holders. You know those things you
have that hold your pens, matchbooks, kitchen utensils, hand towels and
whatnot? Well those things collect dust and to be honest—some of the most
random fall away items you could ever think of. Empty and wipe them down
both inside and out.

5. Replace the Shelf Liners. You can wipe the shelf liners down every year if
you like, but one of the best ways to date your home is to leave the same
patterned shelf liners in place for 10 years. They’re like any other kind of
decoration that needs to be rotated out after a while.

6. Appliances: All of Them. Microwave, toaster oven, oven and the refrigerator
all need a real good once over at least once a year. You use your refrigerator
every single day and there is no doubt that after a year the entire thing needs
to be cleaned out thoroughly and sanitized.

7. Windows and Their Sills. Take a vacuum hose and furniture cleaner to the
inside windowsill and then clean both the inside and outside of the window.
You will be amazed at what a difference it makes.

If you do your normal spring-cleaning routine and add these 7 tips, you’ll have the
cleanest house in the neighborhood. It can seem daunting, but the good thing about
spring-cleaning is that you only have to do it once a year!

  4. Probably the one thing I never thought to do was the potting soil, but you’re so right! They can be root bound after a year anyway.

The one other thing I like to do is either vacuum with my brush attachment or rinse with the hose, the window screens – depending on how easy they are to remove.

  5. Great blog!!! This has been really helpful especially workaholic people like me!!! I would manage to suggest this on my fellow colleagues at home or do it by myself to see the difference. Thank you!
