Modern Ranch House : Master Bedroom-How to Paint a Wooden Accent Wall with BEHR®’s Wanderlust Paint

I am really excited to reveal my master bedroom to all of you. With 2017 just starting and the holidays over I am finally ready to tackle some projects around the new house and my master bedroom was first on the list. For me it is important to have my bedroom done first because I need a place to retreat to when things are crazy with a remodel.

I bought my bed a few months ago after I sold my old white bed and my new gold brass bed was a big statement piece. I loved my bed from the moment I found it but I struggled with the rest of the room until I found the perfect paint color for an accent wall, it is called Wanderlust by BEHR®. I loved it because has a lot of depth and it’s such a rich color. Wanderlust  is part of the BEHR 2017 Color Trends collection.  There are so many awesome colors in the 2017 collection so be sure to go and check them out.

We have always loved color in our homes and we know that having the perfect paint color is very important. I was excited about Wanderlust because it was going to set the perfect tone in my bedroom and really complement somethings I already had picked out.
For the master bedroom I really wanted an awesome accent wall with some wood trim. Mallory and I went back and forth with many different wall patterns and we finally found one that I was in love with. I will share more details about how I did the wooden pattern but for now I wanted to share with you how I painted it.

First, you will need all of your supplies. The most important item is paint. I chose to use the BEHR PREMIUM PLUS® Interior Satin Enamel Paint. It’s such a great paint and it’s the best performing paint under $25 with low odor and zero VOC’s. It’s also Greenguard Gold certified, which means its safe for schools and hospitals and it’s especially safe around my kids which is VERY important to me. It’s also a paint and primer in one with adurable, mildew resistance finish.

Now that you know which paint to get, pick out an awesome color. Like I said before, I picked the Wanderlust color but be sure to check out the rest of the BEHR 2017 Trend Colors.

You will also need wood filler, a putty knife, paint brush, paint roller, tape and a tarp.

After the wood accent wall is finished you need to prep it for paint.

First you are going to fill in all of the nail holes with wood filler and putty knife. I just put the wood filler on holes and then pushed it in with a putty knife and scraped off the excess.

After the wood filler was on I used a damp rag to wipe off any of the extra wood filler.

I filled in all the holes and made sure everything was smooth.

After all the holes were filled I taped around the side walls and the baseboards with some painters tape. Then I laid out the tarp to protect the carpet from any paint getting on it.

I started by painting the center circle and brushing along the wooden strips of wood to be sure to get all of the edges.

After the edges and circle were painted, I used a small paint roller to go over some of the larger areas. I mean can we just talk about how awesome this color is? I really do love it so much.

I just love how my master bedroom turned out and I will be sharing all the details of where I got everything later on this week but for right now can we just talk about how amazing the accent wall turned out!?! I really do love the pattern we picked even though it was a bit crazy at times and the Wanderlust paint color really pulled everything together and now I want to paint everything in my house that color, starting with the wall at the end of my hallway.

Be sure to go and grab some BEHR paint to transform a space in your house for a fresh start in 2017.
