10 Tips for a More Comfortable Pregnancy

I just recently had my fourth baby and it was my best delivery of all my kids. Pregnancy is hard, really hard. There are many things that you can’t really help, but there are things that you can do to help make the pregnancy and the delivery more comfortable.

I don’t know about you but my body just hurts doing pregnancy. Here are a few things that I got helps ease some of the pain.

1. Epsom Salt

I enjoy taking baths. Not everyone loves baths, but I take a few bath a week while I am pregnant. I use Epsom Salt in my bath to help relax my body. My favorite Epsom Salt has the lavender in it which helps relax my body even more.

2. Hot Pad

My back is my biggest source of pain when I am pregnant. Especially since I work as a hair stylist which means I am on my feet for many hours a day. After a long day at work I will hang out on the couch watching a good show and I will lay on the hot pad.

I get heart burn pretty bad. Tums are something that I keep in my nightstand and in my car for when I need them.

4. Comfortable Clothes

It’s worth the investment to get a few comfortable pieces of clothing that will last you throughout the pregnancy. I love black leggings with a bigger waist band. They are comfortable and they look like I am trying more than my baggy sweat pants.

5. Magnesium

Magnesium helps with my restless leg syndrome. My doctor told me that I could take it and it really helped me.

6. Sleep

Sleep is so important. When I was 3 months along I got a new mattress and it was best thing that I did in my pregnancy and in my life. I got an intelliBed and this bed has changed the way that I sleep. Sleep is so important and in order to get a good sleep you need a good mattress. Even when I am not pregnant I would toss and turn all night long. My husband would always complain about aches and pains. Ever since we got the intelliBed his aches and pain have been so much better and I am not tossing and turning all night. We both have a more restful sleep ever since we got this mattress.

Intelli-Gel which is in the intelliBed provides the perfect amount of firm support and comfort at the same time. The Intelli-GEL cushioning layer has the ability to help align your body in a way that helps to improve your quality of sleep. The Intelli-GEL mattress is the only medical grade mattress on the consumer market. It is made out of the same materials used in hospital burn centers. It really is a healing mattress.

I got these facts from the intelliBed website to help you understand some of the science behind how great this bed is.

Speaking of intelliPILLOWS, these pillows are awesome. They are pillows that will last forever because they hold their shape. I have never loved a pillow more and that is coming from a person that has spent way to much money on pillows.

7. Comfortable pjs

I love a good pair a pajamas. I love them while I am pregnant and I love them even more right after I have the baby. One of my favorite pairs right now are these JCrew pjs.

8. Pregnancy Pillow

Although in my every day life my intelliPILLOW is my favorite I did get a Pregnancy this time around and it helps when you get farther along. I will say though I hate how big and in the way they are. Whenever I make my bed it was always a pain to deal with it. But they are super comfortable.

9. Coconut Oil

My skin is pretty dry when I am pregnant and I hate thinking and worrying about stretch marks. I used coconut oil to help to prevent for the stretch marks and the it was an added bonus that the oil also helped with my dry skin.

10. Primrose Oil

I was talking to Mallory and she swears that her last delivery was so awesome because of primrose oil. I checked with my doctor and he gave me the ok to take it at 36 weeks. My delivery was so great and my recovery was way faster than any of my other ones.

Remember to run any medications or concerns by your doctor before trying them but this is what my doctor and I found that works best for me and my pregnancy. Like I said before pregnancy is really hard and a lot of things are out of your control but hopefully these tips will help with a more comfortable pregnancy. Remember even though it feels like a lifetime and it pregnancy goes so slow. You have got this, and you can do hard things. Just take it a day at a time.

Much Love sign-2

I love your ideas for keeping comfortable during a pregnancy! I’ve never thought about using primrose oil to help with the recovery after the pregnancy. I think that when I get pregnant again, I’m going to use it to see if it makes a difference for me. But before I do that, I’ll make sure to talk with my doctor to see when it’s okay for me to take it. Thanks for the great tips!

Nice article. I would like to add drinking water is essential to a healthy pregnancy. Dehydration can cause preterm labour, as well as other issues in pregnancy.

These seem like great ways to be more comfortable during pregnancy. I get restless leg syndrome, too, so I think I may have to try taking magnesium. Hopefully it works for me like it did for you!

I really liked all of the advice you gave to have a more comfortable pregnancy. What stood out to me, though, was the suggestion to take magnesium supplements because it will help with restless leg syndrome. I didn’t know that this was the case. Since it helped you, maybe it will help me too. I’ll try it out; thank you for sharing!

Recently, I have been using coconut oil to keep my hands from cracking and drying during the winter, and I have been surprised at how well it works! I am glad to read that it can help prevent stretch marks during pregnancy as well, because that is also one of my fears. I love all of your tips, especially the pregnancy pillow. I am going to have to try to find one of those!

My wife just found out that she is pregnant with our first child and we couldn’t be more excited. Since this is our first, we have no idea how to go about making this pregnancy as smooth as possible. I think my wife in particular would love the pregnancy pillow that is shown towards the bottom. These tips have really helped us out though and I hope that we can start implementing this as soon as we can.
