St. Patricks Day Rice Krispie Treats with Lucky Charms Marshmallows

Lucky Rice Krispie Treats

I am huge fan of Rice Krispie treats! They’re super easy to make and taste delicious! My kiddos and I wanted to try a twist on the traditional Rice Krispie Treats and make them green and use Lucky Charms Marshmallows for St. Patrick’s Day!  I also like to add vanilla extract to mine to enhance the flavor a bit. I have seen cute versions of this treat with using Lucky Charms cereal but I love the texture and taste of traditional Rice Krispie Treats so we just added the Lucky Charm’s marshmallows separately at the end.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup of butter
  • 4 cups of soft marshmallows
  • 5 cups of Rice Krispie cereal
  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • green food coloring (optional)
  • approximately 3/4 cup of Lucky Charm’s marshmallows – My kids and I picked them out of the Lucky Charms cereal box and set them in a bowl until we were ready to use them. Heaven help the person who pours themselves a bowl of Lucky Charms sans marshmallows! (hehehe! I’ll blame it on the leprechaun!)

Instructions:

Melt butter over low heat until completely melted. Gradually add marshmallows and stir often to avoid burning them. When marshmallow/butter mixture is completely melted, add 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla and your green food coloring and mix well. Remove from heat and stir in your Rice Krispie cereal. Once mixture is mostly combined, stir in the Lucky Charm’s marshmallows.  My kids and I picked them out of the Lucky Charms. If possible, store in an air tight container and they will stay softer longer! A ziplock bag works great!

I think little Tanner man loved them the most, runny nose and all. :)

Kiss me I’m Irish – St. Patrick’s Day Gift Idea

I don’t normally give out gifts for St. Patrick’s Day but I think this could be the cutest gift for a teacher or friend who needs a “pick me up” around this time of year. This time of year is rough for me sometimes because honestly, I am so over the winter at this point. We are still fiddling around with 8, 10, 20 degree temperatures and I’m over it. The winter blues can be in full swing for some at this time. Even if you’ve beat the blues, who wouldn’t LOVE a bag or a jar of kisses!? This would be also be so cute to stick in hubby’s car as a surprise on St. Patrick’s Day too!

I’m not Irish so I made two versions of this cute little printable to attach to your little gift. All you need to do is fill a bag or a small jar full of almond kisses (because they’re gold!) and add the cute tag. So cute and easy!

New Years Decor Ideas and a Free Printable Banner

New years comes and goes so quickly so its easy to overlook putting out decor for such a short holiday time! This easy and inexpensive New Years decor ideas will for sure make you want to decorate for New Years! Especially if you’re throwing a party!

New Years Mantel_1

For this mantel we did some pretty simple decor that gives a definite WOW factor! First, we jazzed up a chalkboard with a fun “Cheers 2014″ design. (If you’re looking for a statement chalkboard, contact Savannah at classyclutter4 (at) gmail (dot) com)

Next, garlands! We used three different types of garlands on this display. Layering multiple garlands gives the illusion layers and makes it look super jazzy which is exactly what you want for new years!

Glitter Dot Garland

cut metallic paper

Next, we used metallic tissue paper and made the fringe garland. It’s super easy to make if you’ve never done it before.  You take your tissue paper and fold it as wide as you want your garland to be. We folded it and cut 3″ fringe on each side of the folded paper leaving about a half inch section in the middle. Unfold and tape it to the ceiling. You may need to tape two together to make a really long one. Twirl a bit for a spiral effect. So fun!

Next up is our free printable new years garland. Simply print it out and string it with thread or ribbon. We sewed more glitter dots in between each word.

DIY Peppermint Sugar Scrub Recipe – Last minute gift idea

This DIY Peppermint Sugar Scrub is seriously amazing. I’m kind of obsessed with it. Sugar scrubs are so beyond easy to make and anyone would love this gift.

Peppermint Sugar Scrub_2

DIY Peppermint Sugar Scrub Recipe

4 cups of sugar

6 candy canes

2 tsp of Peppermint extract

1 cup of baby oil

*yields 7 (8 ounce) mason jars

Peppermint Sugar Scrub_4

Instructions

In a blender, blend the candy canes until they are completely crushed. You do not want too many chunky pieces of candy because that would hurt in a scrub! Make sure it’s pretty fine. It should resemble the consistency of the sugar.

In a large bow, mix all ingredients and divide equally into the jars.

Print your tags and attach them with ribbon. You could also print them on sticker paper if you want to stick the labels on the jar. I did 2″ sticker labels for the lids.

DIY Glittery Confetti Garland – So easy and cute!

Diy Glittery Garland

2014 is right around the corner! Celebrate the New Year with this DIY Glittery Confetti Garland. It is SO easy to make and such an inexpensive, gorgeous project!

DIY Glittered Confetti Garland

I used a 1 1/2 circle punch to cut out all the circles. I got glitter paper from Joann’s, just make sure you don’t use too thick of paper. I cut out 3 pages worth of circles.

glittered dots.jpg

Then its time for the fun part… sewing! It’s way easier then it seems. Just start feeding your circles into the sewing machine. I left a little bit in between each circle.

Coffee Filter “JOY” letters

Coffee Filter Christmas Decor

Today we are going to show you how to make your own Coffee Filter Christmas Decor. We made the word JOY but you can do any word or shape you’d like! Fun huh?

 Supplies:

  • Poster Board
  • Coffee Filters
  • White School Glue
  • A box knife or some wicked awesome scissors
  • Overhead projector (optional)
  • Transparency Film (optional)

Print out letters on transparency paper.jpg

1. First, print out your letters on a transparency film. If you aren’t using a projector, skip to step 3!  You can draw the letters free hand if you’d like.

trace letters onto poster board

2. Using an overhead projector, trace your letters onto poster board. Again, you can free hand it if you want. A simple font should be easy to draw.

Cut out letters

3. Using a box knife or sharp, sturdy scissors, carefully cut out your letters you traced on the poster board.

Apply glue to letters

4. Now slather on some white school glue and get ready to add your coffee filters.

Gather Coffee Filters 5. Gather the bottom of your coffee filter to create a little pouf. You can fiddle with it a bit until you like the shape.

Apply coffee filters to letters

6. Apply the coffee filter to the glue and repeat a bunch of times until all of your letters or your shape is covered. This would make a super cute wreath too! You could jazz it up with ribbon, glitter, etc!

JOY coffee filter letters We love the rustic look of the brown coffee filters but you could use white if you wanted too! Aren’t they so fluffy, ruffly and fun!?!

$5 Burlap Fall Wreath {oldie but a goodie!}

Today I’m going to re-share a tutorial I posted a few years ago for my Burlap Halloween wreath. I used my own tutorial and created a Fall version. I thought I’d include the tutorial for those that may have missed it!

Burlap is SUPER cheap! I got 1 yard of burlap at Joann’s for around $2 using a coupon. I also got the Fall ribbon from Joann’s. The “N” and other fall embellishments I had on hand.

Here’s how I did it:
1. I unwound the hook of a wire hanger so it was one long wire.
2. I formed it into a circle shape.
3. Cut my burlap into 3″ strips. I used exactly 1 yard of burlap. You could use up to two yards for a more tightly folded look.
4. I folded the strips back and forth as I threaded it through the wire. Super easy.

5. Once I had a full-looking wreath, I spaced out the fabric and secured it in random places, using hot glue, to the wire hanger so it didn’t slide around.

6. Finally, I rewound the wire to close the hanger. I ended up keeping the hook part of the hanger so I could hang the wreath from it on my door.

7. Made a quick bow and used wire to secure it in place.

8. Finally, I added the gold (spray painted) “N” and a few Fall embellishments to dress it up a bit. The “N” and the Fall foliage were originally from Hobby Lobby but I had them on hand.

Start to finish you’re looking at about a 30-45 minute project for under $5! Can’t beat that! No excuses for a wreath-less door this season! Mallory_Sig
