How to paint a dresser (inside the house!)

Bonus Room Makeover

I’m finally showing a project in my new house! A lot of our house feels like a reno zone but a few spaces feel “done” over the last week or so. We still have a few things to do in the completed spaces but at least it it is starting to feel like our home. Today we’re teaming up with DecoArt to show you another makeover using DecoArt Satin Enamels.

How to paint a dresser - before

This little dreamboat dresser was a yard sale find back when I lived in New York and has had a couple different makeovers. It has been used in my boys’ room and now they’ve outgrown it a bit since they’re bigger and have more clothes. (The drawers are not very deep so it doesn’t hold a ton of clothes, especially for two kiddos sharing a room.)

The pulls are built into the drawers so I had to spray paint them first. I gave it 3-4 blasts of spray paint per handle to brighten the gold that was already there.

Next, I used DecoArt Satin Enamels in Pure White. This paint requires very little prep work and sticks really well to a previously painted surface (like this green dresser!). All I had to do was remove the campaign hardware and wipe the whole piece down. I did use a scraper to remove some lose paint on the front where the brackets were. After literally 3 minutes of prep work, it was time to paint!

I painted 2 coats with a smooth, medium size paint roller. I also used a brush in hard to roll areas.

Once it was dry, I put the hardware back on and voila! Done! The whole project took less than 2 hours and I was able to paint it right in the room where it is staying since there was little to no prep work! Just be sure to mask your floors with a dropcloth or cardboard like I did. PS, do you see the floors?!?! Savannah and I laid this new laminate (all by ourselves!!!) in this room when I first moved in and I’m obsessed with it! Can’t wait to carry it throughout the rest of the main living space! We’ll share a tutorial soon! How to paint a dresser - Click for tutorial!

  3. Love how your dresser turned out. Quick question. Did you remove the drawers when you painted the dresser or did you just pull them out slightly? I have a campaign dresser I want to paint and the drawers WILL NOT come out.. we are afraid if we force them out they will break. I know this is an old post..I came across it on Pinterest.
