Hello Classy Clutter friends! It’s Marie from Blooming Homestead and I am so excited to be here sharing this pretty DIY Christmas Canvas with you today. It’s safe to say that I love decorating for the holidays and creating unique diy holiday decor is one of my most favorite hobbies.
Supplies:
- Vinyl– (I used heat transfer but wouldn’t recommend it on raw canvas-see below)
- Silhouette or Cricut to cut out lettering
- 16×20 canvas
- white fabric appropriate for heat transfer
- heavy duty staple gun
I came across this gold glitter heat transfer vinyl and knew I wanted to try it on canvas. Now, being a heat transfer vinyl newbie, I didn’t realized that htv doesn’t stick to canvas very well at all (lesson learned the hard way mid project!) Instead of applying it directly to the naked canvas, I recommend you save yourself a big headache and apply it to white fabric which you’ll then use to wrap the canvas. (Or you can use self-adhesive vinyl on a painted canvas) I don’t have photos of this since I had to improvise with my half stuck on htv but here is how to get the same look, without the hassle.
To start, you’ll measure your fabric with a few inches on each side to cover and wrap around the canvas. Before you wrap it, you’ll cut out your htv lettering/designs with your machine. Be sure to mirror the image before you cut it so that your letting will be readable when applied. Weed out excess vinyl, leaving the lettering for heat transfer. I also cut out some little stars to add some interest to the canvas. Iron on or use heat press to apply the lettering on the fabric, according to manufacturers instructions.
With your lettering applied to your fabric, you will now secure the fabric around the canvas using the staple gun. Be sure to gather seams tightly for a crisp look.
This canvas art goes perfectly with my gold holiday decor and I love how it turned out.
