Unique and Colorful Master Bedroom (details + sources)

You guys, I’m the worst! I just realized I’ve never shared my Master Bedroom Reveal with you!  I’ve shared a few tutorials in the room but haven’t shown it all or spilled the details of it all. Don’t worry, it’s happening NOW! I’m sharing all the details, photos and links to the tutorials I’ve shared so far.

To give you a little background, this bedroom makeover was our last challenge for Creating with the Stars 2014. We decided we wanted to do a full room makeover since the theme was “Home Decor” and we were really hoping to do something BIG and really impress. I decided about half way through that this was my favorite makeover ever. It also made it about 10x more fun because Savannah flew from AZ to NY to help me complete the room in only 4 days and our frequent conference calls with the hilarious, talented Mandi from Vintage Revivals made it even more awesome.

I had already completed the DIY Modern Tufted Headboard when Savannah arrived so first, we decided on the focal wall. With a little (okay, kind of a lot!) of jigsawing, we created the DIY Wood Scalloped Wall (full tutorial here.)  We are both totally obsessed with the wood scallops on the wall and it really is super easy and pretty inexpensive to do it. It’s also great for renters because it doesn’t damage your walls. Hello, awesome!Master Bedroom Makeover form Classy Clutter

We made the Greek key pillows using peach grosgrain ribbon and this gorgeous coral fabric from fabric.com.  We also made the navy and white striped pillows out of a crib sheet we found at Target. We really wanted navy and white stripes but could not find the fabric anywhere local. We could’ve ordered some online but, like I said, we were on a serious time crunch to do this makeover in only 4 days. The turquoise and aqua ikat pillow was from Marshall’s (similar here).

The white quilt is from Target. I don’t see it on their website anymore but I think you can still get it in the stores.  The turquoise throw blanket is amazingly soft and was from HomeGoods.

This dresser could’ve been the death of me. We had about 100 ideas for how to paint it and went back and forth about 800 times about what to do. We finally decided on white and trimmed it out in peach using painter’s tape. I am so glad we finally came up with something we all loved. We got it at the thrift store and let’s just say, it was not cute when we found it. 😉

The chair was found at the same thrift store and all I did was recovered the cushion using a faux fur rug. I love the texture it adds! Isn’t it so funky fun? The rug is from Target, Nate Berkus collection but I ended swapping it out for this floral one from Urban Outfitters after the competition. I love both rugs but already had the Urban Outfitters one so I opted to save a few bucks and return the rug.

We made these DIY Macramé Planters in about 1o minutes and found the wooden bowls at HomeGoods. The rope and plants came from Home Depot. Savannah painted the bowls to have that dipped look and add a little color. To say I’m in love with them is an understatement.  You can read the full tutorial here.

We did our own little Rast Ikea Hack and turned these cheapy nightstands into adorable mint campaign dressers. Read the full tutorial here.

Hope you love my Colorful Master Bedroom as much as we do! It was SO fun and earned us 2nd place out of 299 projects on Creating with the Stars 2014! I’d call that a success! 🙂

  1. Hello there!! I am in love with this whole room! I was wondering if you could tell me where you got the lamp that is on your nightstand/bedside table? Any help would be really appreciated. 🙂

    1. I third this request – I would love a tutorial for the painting. Also, where did you get the gold light above the bed?

    This room is perfection.

Where did you get the hanging light for the ceiling? I’ve been wanting something similar.

    1. Hi Jessica!

I made it out of some plastic tubing and drinking straws! I am hoping to do a tutorial but in a rush to finish the room, I forgot to take pictures while I made it! Eek!! I’ll see what I can do!
