My Christmas Mantel 2012 – Neutrals and Metallics

This year, I decided to ditch the traditional red and green and try to create a Christmas/Wintery look with neutrals and metallics. I love glitter and glam and this mantel shelf display captures just that!

I made this DIY Wintery Pearl Wreath to hang on my mirror above the shelf. I love the elegance it brings to the display. You can read the tutorial here.

I painted a plank of board (that I cut down to size with my jigsaw) the same color as my wall color since I had the grey on hand already. The wall and board color is Glidden Pebble Grey. Then, I applied this “Joyeux Noel” vinyl decal I designed with my Silhouette studio. You can purchase the decal here if you’re interested. The silver nutcracker was from Hobby Lobby last year and the gold reindeer was a recent Hobby Lobby purchase. I love his swirly antlers!

Next, I really wanted to personalize the whole thing to our family but didn’t have a place for a family photo so I opted for our silhouettes. I will be posting a tutorial on how to make these (It’s really easy!) very soon.

For a little more personalization, I added monograms to the stockings. I used Hobby Lobby letters and glitter glass. Then, I embellished them with some gold pine cones, also from Hobby Lobby. I need to make 2 more still but we’re getting close! As long as they’re done in time for Santa to fill!

I made this “Believe” sign for above our sofa. I used Savannah’s tutorial to create this German Glitter Glass banner. I drilled holes in the top of the letters and strung them on jute.

The little Christmas corner! My boys took most of my couch pillows upstairs to have a pillow fight so my couch looks a little lonely but I do love how my Christmas decor is coming together! I think I need a cute Christmas pillow or two on the couch. Hmm… let’s just add that on to the list! haha!

Here’s a look at the other side of the room.

“JOY” tutorial can be found here.

What do you think? Do you like the neutrals and metallics or do you love traditional red and green?

  1. I think your color scheme looks great! I don’t think it’s something I would do because I really like the traditional colors and “woodsy/rustic” designs, but I do love how it all came together for you. I want a Silhouette machine so bad!
