DIY wood window valance

Like Mallory said its a blogs anniversary and we wanted to share a
few post from last year in case you missed it!

My Sister Scarlett has done some updating in her house in the last year and when we came across these
Window Valances from All Things Thrifty
we knew this would be perfect in her home.
We followed the window valances tutorial and loved how it
 turned out.
1. Measure your window and see how much MDF
board you will need.
2. Scarlett went to Home Depot with her measurements and
they cut her board for her.
The windows were to long for just one piece of board so she had them cut an extra piece to add length.
3. To add the length she got these brackets…
Then used “L” brackets to connect the sides.
On the second valance we did we used the small brackets and they were a little better because they were a little tighter then the bigger ones… but both brackets worked great.
4. Scarlett picked up some wallpaper from Home Depot and we used Wallpaper Boarder Adhesive that we got from Walmart to adhere the wallpaper to the board.
(it was not exactly this product but you get the idea)

5. On the corners and sides we just hot glued the edges down.

6. After we let it dry it was time for the Trim… My handy Hubby  helped with this part…I will be honest.. it was a struggle to figure out the Mitered corners.. we went through a FEW pieces of trim but
( Well…this video SAVED us)
We got the corner to look good and with the TINY crack we filled it with caulking.. and It was PERFECT!
Those Mitered Corners are not easy as they look!

7. To finish it off we spray painted the whole thing Ivory by Krylon.

This Valance is Awesome!!! It makes a BIG IMPACT!

With the Burlap Curtains I made… it looks like a Million Bucks
for VERY little money.

What I love about how easy this tutorial is that you could even
add batting to the wood with glue and cover it with
fabric for a padded valance!
Enjoy,
