DIY Sunburst mirror for under $15!

I have been looking for something to go over my bed and Mallory found this Sunburst Mirror at Hobby Lobby but it is $119.99! Which is not in the budget! So I made it for less then $15 instead. Everything I used is from Hobby Lobby.

You will need:

Wood Dowels
1″ Mirrors ( I used 36)
3/4″ mirrors (I used 24)
I want to say I used the 15″ round mirror for the center
 (which ever one is $5.99)
Hot glue
Black acrylic or black spray paint

At Hobby Lobby you may be able to get the mirrors 30% off if you wait for the sale!
 1. I first laid out the dowels on the large wood dowel so I would know how many I needed. Then I spray painted them, only because I already had black spray paint but you could use the cheap acrylic paint and hand paint it.

 2. I did not take a picture but I then started to hot glue the mirrors on the wooden dowels. I took half the dowels I painted and did 1 small mirror and 1 larger mirror on it then I did 1 small mirrors and 2 larger mirror on the other half of the painted dowels. I made sure they were all even and the same. I put all the smaller mirrors closer to the center mirror. Does that make sense?
After that I started to glue the dowels to the back of the mirror.
 Then I was done!

Not to bad for under $15 and done in about an hour!
What do you think of the new mirror?

  1. That looks so good! I want one for my bedroom. Adding it to my list of oh, about 100 projects I want to do. 😛

  2. I loved this so much I made one myself 🙂 I’m curious though how did you hang it? I can’t figure out a good way to hang it. Hot glue didn’t work to keep the hook on. Thanks!
